The Tamagotchi Pix, which came out in America in July of 2021 was kind of a Godsend for me. Obviously, the year had been kinda all over the place ever since 2020 and the Pandemic. I had been having a lull in my Animal Crossing: New Horizons life before all of the Fall updates happened more recently.
I've been a Tamagotchi fan ever since the very first English release back in 1997 (Japanese original release was a year earlier in 1996). But the small egg friend has come way further since then. Many versions have been in color in Japan for years, though I've noticed many American fans did not realize this if they aren't someone that keep up with the releases. I actually have a Japanese Tamagotchi P's which came out in 2012 in Japan. It is a very cutely designed Tama that allowed different "Pierces" to be plugged into the front of the Tama that allowed different content. Mine is the pink and yellow Coffret version! If you're ever interested in a Japanese Tamagotchi, they are really not that difficult to work. Though the words are not English, the controls are very simple and are easy to figure out. After that I was given a purple Tamagotchi On, which is the English version of the Japanese Meets. This version is honestly a fav because it has the option of marrying off your Tamagotchi, and the next generation having the attributes of generations before it! There is also an app if you want to meet other users there and marry. You can also sometimes hatch TWINS!
Now, back to the matter at hand. My Tamagotchi Pix is the Pink version. There was also a purple version released alongside it. Although purple is my favorite color, I couldn't find that one at the time. They have also released a green one, and are soon releasing a blue. It came with a floral print paper backing for the faceplate, but I did my very first custom job on this Tama and made my very own Five Night's at Freddy's faceplate! It's a scene from the first graphic novel with my fav character (William Afton) in the corner! Definitely not perfect, but I think it turned out very cute.
This Tamagotchi is interesting because they completely took away the raised buttons and replaced them with button shaped divots in the plastic faceplate. You don't really push on the "buttons" but simply apply pressure. It is pretty nice once you get used to it, but every once in awhile the machine things I'm pressing more than one button at once which can be a little annoying. Not unmanageable though! The top of the "Egg" of the Tamagotchi is actually a big button that can be used as a shutter button for the camera on the back of the machine. It's super cute. The pictures can be taken of objects just like an old fashioned Nintendo camera like back in the day, or with your current Tamagotchi in the picture, which is honestly the most adorable option.
When it comes to the Tamagotchis you can raise, the Pix features 3 egg classes: pink, blue, and green. And depending on which color egg you get you have a 50/50 chance of hatching a boy or girl. After that it's back to the age old issue of how you raise your teen. This isn't like some of the other versions where your intertest change which evolution you're going to get, it's literally based on egg class, gender, and care mistakes.
Once you've raised your adult then you can help it achieve it's dream job! You don't HAVE to I suppose, but it's very cute to see what they want to be. And if you get them to their goal before they want to return to Tama Planet they'll transform into a cute work outfit! You must make an album for your new friend to take home with them to remember you by, then they'll choose you a new egg and you'll start the cycle all over again.
Overall, I love this thing. My only REAL complaint is it really eats up those AAA batteries. My guess is because it's got the little camera that is uses more energy, so always have your tiny screwdriver and extra batteries handy!
And if you're looking for somewhere to get some extra loot for your Tamagotchi, I suggest checking out Mr. Blinky's website. He is someone I've followed for Tamagotchi hacks and downloads for awhile. The Pix uses QR codes to get it's downloads. If you didn't know about him I'll gladly drop his link: http://mrblinky.net/tama/pix/download/
