Stuffed Animals as Anxiety Reducers

Obviously, I am someone who loves toys, and by that regard, stuffed animals. I've always loved stuffed animals. Something about them has always allured me and pulled me in. I think it has something to do with their personalities. Stuffed animals often seem to have a much softer and huggable feel about them because of, yes, their bodies are literally plush. But also, their faces always have some sort of feeling in their little eyes. It may be a plush of a character we like and know, or it may be just a simple animal plush that we've always cherished. The feeling is somehow always there to me. Of course, that doesn't mean all plush are created equal. You may not get this feeling with every plush! I collect many stuffed animals, but a few are just cute, it doesn't mean I have AS deep a connection with them. I often have someone lurking in my purse as a travel companion, but that travel companion also doubles as an Anxiety reducer when I need them. Now, what could an adult woman have to be anxious about you ask?

That was a silly joke! There is so much that anyone, anywhere, of any age or sex might be anxious about. And you know what? That's ok. That's really how it is sometimes. Some people may not have anxiety, and do not understand how situations can put a person on edge, but other people who suffer with it or depression can really get how one little thing can cause a slew of emotions that are very hard to turn off. Pictured here we have good ol' Bucky Bean. Bucky was given to me by my partner. He's a Disney Tsum Tsum, so he's very small and handheld! I do often put other plushes in my bag for photos, but I've come to really enjoy taking Bucky places, because he's very easy to fit almost anywhere. In that photo he was helping me get my Covid Booster shot. I am VERY proud to say I've come a long way with the shot issue, but I used to faint way easier, and I'm still not exactly fond of the whole ordeal, so having someone there with me to "hold my hand" so to speak, is really nice. It's a good thing Bucky Bean doesn't need to breathe normally, or maybe he can hold his breath for a long time; he's trained you know.... it's a hard job! He's kind of like a stress ball sometimes when I'm at work too; I like to hold him under my desk if I'm getting ancy.

My other honorable mention of this article is Mr. Spock. Yes, THAT Spock, but he's a cat? He's a GUND plushie from a series they did with all the Star Treck Original Series main characters as animals. ( I AM partial to Kirk as well~) I have slept with many a stuffed animal, but Mr. Spock is my favorite right now (I even gave him some rather HIGH FASHION Vulcan jewelry you can see there on his leg). Even though I am an adult, I've never found that to be weird in the least bit. It gives you something to hold and cuddle like you would a small pillow. It's like a little friend who wants to help you when you're not feeling your best sometimes! So if anyone has ever made you feel the least bit worried about that sort of thing, don't think it makes you any less of a person. I'm sure they had a stuffie at one point in time too. There is no reason to let such a true friend go. You should always surround yourself with people who love and listen to you, this is true, but sometimes? You need someone who wants to keep your secrets and be with you always. Stuffed animals are meant to be loved after all!

Do you have a stuffed animal or toy/item that helps you with anxiety or to feel better when you're feeling down? :)
